Event Site Design strengthens team with high-profile appointment

Event Site Design, the site design and CAD planning specialist, has entered a period of growth by making the first of several new appointments.

Jackie Slade, who has more than 20 years’ experience as site manager and site designer, including leading the site design and site management at Glastonbury Festivals, has joined Event Site Design as head of design.

Slade will lead Event Site Design’s design team, drawing on her vast design and delivery experience to help clients realise optimum site layouts.

Slade has extensive experience in site overlay and senior-level site operations. Most recently, Slade was an overlay manager at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and took ownership of the design and delivery of the event’s Smithfield venue, a large outdoor site hosting two large temporary seating bowls for 3×3 Basketball, Beach Volleyball and a free public festival site.

Her appointment signals a period of progression and renewed focus at Event Site Design.

Rupert Bassadone, founder of Event Site Design, explained: “Event Site Design is a design-led business. I don’t wish our brilliant and experienced team members – who are event professionals in their own right – to be seen as CAD draughtsmen.

“Yes, we are specialists in CAD, and we know how to get the best from CAD planning tools, but our job is to help clients get the best from their event sites. We don’t want our clients to have to think about design. We want to take the hassle out of site planning, and we want our clients to think of us as someone who can help them solve a site design problem and create perfect plans because we can draw on our own event knowledge.”

Bassadone continued: “That’s why our appointment of Jackie is so exciting. She is the perfect person to lead the charge and our new approach to business, bringing an enormous amount of experience and passion to the company.

“Event Site Design is not just highly proficient in CAD, but we also understand the pressures of event organising and the realities of event operations, production, and site management. So, when you ask us to help you with your event site designs, we really can and can say that with conviction.”

Speaking on her appointment, Slade said: “I have watched Rupert for many years and have admired the work that he has done to educate the industry on the importance of great site planning. I am thrilled to join Event Site Design and excited to work with Rupert and the team to use our collective skills to design event sites that not only look great but also allow for the safe movement of crowds, make guests feel comfortable, and work well on a practical and operational level.”

Slade has previously worked on London 2012 and with Vision Nine, Festival Republic, and Richmond Event Management, managing large-scale and complex sites and site designs for events such as the Olympic Games, Boardmasters, and Reading and Leeds Festival, and Big Chill Festival.

She has also trained and holds certificates in AutoCAD, NEBOSH, Mental Health First Aid, crowd dynamics, crowd safety and risk analysis, and public safety at festivals and mass gatherings.

Slade’s appointment is the first of three new appointments. Bassadone is actively recruiting and is keen to hear from event professionals with boots-on-the-ground experience and high-quality CAD skills.

Bassadone concluded: “Event Site Design has a packed calendar of exciting projects and events. I am looking for enthusiastic and experienced #Eventprofs to join our team. 2024 is looking incredibly busy so I want to ensure that we have the best team in place as we grow as a business and look to the future.”
