Hearby, TOTUM and MVT partnership connects live music venues with students

Students across the UK can now access thousands of gigs nearby thanks to Hearby’s latest partnership with student discount platform TOTUM in association with Music Venue Trust (MVT), the charity working to secure and protect the UK’s grassroots music scene.

You may have heard about Hearby, the AI-driven company on a mission to map every live music event taking place across the planet. What you might not know is that Hearby’s technology is also helping local live music venues connect with students new to the area.

Hearby has announced a new partnership with TOTUM, the student discount platform and app. With this partnership, Hearby is using its state-of-the-art tools and expertise in AI to list every venue offering live music nearby – providing students an opportunity to explore their city during their first weeks at university.

Whether you’re looking for a laid-back place to grab a coffee whilst listening to live acoustic sets or a bustling bar to discover new music with friends – Hearby lists a variety of venues and spaces to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Ian Condry, Hearby co-founder of Hearby and cultural anthropology professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) comments: “TOTUM is the leader in reaching the UK’s university students. Hearby provides the most comprehensive live music listings, including extensive coverage of grassroots venues.

“Together, this partnership can help university students become more integrated into local neighbourhoods, while having a great time exploring the wide range of music happening across the country.”

Exclusively recommended by National Union of Students, TOTUM is a national initiative where students can receive special offers at local businesses – including discounts at restaurants and shops. Ultimately, TOTUM offers its members a chance to discover new places in their neighbourhood.

Elizabeth Bone, managing director of TOTUM adds: “We know from speaking to students how difficult many have found the past couple of years, particularly in terms of forming connections when starting University. Many have struggled with building a feeling of belonging to their new surroundings.

“At TOTUM our mission is to help students live their best Uni life for less, putting money back into their pockets and helping them navigate life as a student, so we’re constantly looking for partners who can help students make connections and save money.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming Hearby to TOTUM and the opportunities they bring to students to connect with their local area. We look forward to introducing them further to our members.”

TOTUM members can now access Hearby on the TOTUM app and website to automatically be shown the largest collection of live music events happening around them.

Plus, students will receive five per cent off their favourite band merchandise from Hearby’s partner Backstreetmerch when they sign-up.

Alongside MVT, this partnership also provides the opportunity for local grassroots venues to connect with newcomers and get more through their door.
