Lambeth Council will meet tomorrow (February 24) and decide whether Brockwell Park will host several live events this summer.

At a planning committee meeting, councillors are expected to come to a decision over the use of the park and whether to grant Summer Events planning permission to organise Field Day, Cross the Tracks, City Splash, Mighty Hoopla, and Brockwell Bounce. Wide Awake festival will not take place in 2026.

Summer Events has applied for temporary planning permission and to use the park from May 9 until June 9.

If granted, Summer Events would have 32 days (including wet weather buffer days) to load-in and de-rig all structures and ancillary items. Excluding contingency days, the planned operational period is 27 days.

The planning committee meeting will take place at 7pm on February 24. According to reports, the council has recommended that temporary planning permission be granted so that Brockwell Live can go ahead.

The plans have received a considerable number of objections during a public consultation. In total, 842 properties were consulted on the application via letters. There were 395 responses in objection and 127 in support.

Last year, legal action was brought about by Protect Brockwell Park, which argued that the festivals caused long-term damage to the park and restricted their access to green spaces.

If granted planning permission, the events would occupy a maximum of 26 per cent of the park at any one time, leaving 74 per cent of the park open to the public.
