Richmond Event Management (REM) has secured a five-year, £2.5 million production and management contract with organisers Bristol International Balloon Fiesta (BIBF). This follows a highly successful initial three year contract in which REM was asked to produce and operate all aspects of the event.

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, now entering its 35th year, is Europe’s biggest annual hot air balloon event attracting nearly 500,000 visitors per annum and reaching 1.2 billion from broadcast, print and online media coverage.  With over 300 traders, 150 hot air balloon teams and a corporate membership operation, REM will continue to deliver event management, creative content, operational planning, site infrastructure and income generation for the event which is self-financing.

Commenting on the new contract Mike Richmond, managing director, Richmond Event Management, explained “It is great news for REM that we can continue our involvement with the fiesta after a challenging 2012 where the site needed to be protected in order to stage the show. In a year where the industry suffered from severe wet weather we were adamant the fiesta would not be cancelled. The weather during the build was a significant threat but our wet weather contingencies enabled the show to go on. I am glad to say in doing so that the team have earned their spurs and we have been awarded a further five years. We will work closely with the Fiesta to develop and manage the customer experience. As an organisation we feel very privileged to help stage such a unique event.”

The 35th Bristol International Balloon Fiesta takes place on August 8-11, 2013.
