Richmond Event Management has been awarded the contract for event management and production of the 2012 Bristol Harbour Festival.

The city’s harbour and Queen Square will take centre stage, as up to 200,000 visitors are expected to attend the event which takes place from July 20-22 – a week earlier than its usual calendar spot.

REM will manage the event on behalf of Bristol City Council, and is looking to achieve “best value” from any contractors who will work on the event.

The festival’s programme of content will not change, said Mike Richmond, managing director, Richmond Event Management.

Live performance, musicians, dancers and historic ships are expected as well as a circus stage in Castle Park, which will be organised by Cirque Bijou.

Councillor Simon Cook, Bristol’s deputy leader and executive member, said: “For thousands of local people across the city and for thousands more who come to visit Bristol, the harbour festival is the highlight of the city’s cultural calendar.

“Thanks to the creative talent of local musicians and performers, the harbour festival boasts an enviable reputation for first-class entertainment and family fun. We are looking forward to working closely Richmond Event Management and celebrating the 41st harbour festival.”
