ShambalaShambala has got a lot of bottle – or not, as soon the case may be! Kambe Events, which organise the annual festival, has revealed a ban on plastic bottles and will be the first bottled-water-free UK festival – there will be no bottles of water on sale anywhere at the festival this year.

The organising team is asking all crew, artists and festivalgoers to bring a reusable water bottle (not glass) with them and re-use it. Kambe Events will install extra taps across the site and provide free, chilled and filtered water at all the site’s main bars.

For those who forget to bring a bottle, there will be a limited number of BPA-free water bottles for sale on-site, with all money generated going to water charity Frank, which supports water development projects.

This initiative is in a bid to reduce waste and highlight the plight of plastic waste and its impact on the environment.

Kambe Events believe that such measures will stop 10,000 plastic bottles entering the waste chain, which will impact greatly on the event’s own costs too.
