Sustainability poster launched by EcoEvents and drpgroup

A new poster, created to give all companies a simple, cost effective route map to achieve sustainable event practises, has been launched today by EcoEvents and drpgroup.

The SAVE (Sustainability Action for Venues and Events) poster is inspired by the HSE poster and depicts a route map of the journey that companies can follow to take action to better their business. It comes with guidance notes on ‘How to Choose Your Sustainability Representative’ to enable companies to choose the right person to drive their programme.

EcoEvents director, Sam Wilson said: “SAVE is a response to the recent increased awareness in our industry and the need to take action in order to meet growing requirements to evidence performance. We have been working with large organisations for a number of years to help them achieve certification, but I wanted to assist the smaller companies too. Most cannot afford the services of a consultant, whilst others may not want to achieve certification, but they still need to manage their operations and maintain legal compliance. The SAVE poster has been created to give all organisations, big or small, a route map – a way of starting their sustainability journey that’s measurable and achievable. We didn’t want to be prescriptive, but instead give companies an affordable, do-able action plan; a tool to do it their own way, to suit their own business model and brand.”

Dale Parmenter, group director of drpgroup and vice chair of Eventia, commented: “We have created an engagement tool that brings strategy to life. The poster has been designed to be complimentary to ISO20121 certification through a step-by-step journey that visually declares a commitment to take action.  Client requirements are increasing every year so the industry needs a managed approach to meeting them, and to deliver the evidence that policies have been not just supported, but contributed to.”

The poster is the first step in the SAVE performance improvement programme – further modules will be launched in November. The poster is £25.99 + VAT and is available from

Added James Mark, services and 2012 games director, ExCeL London: “As one of the leading global venues in sustainability management with accredited UKAS third party certification in ISO 14001 and BS 8901, ExCeL London is delighted to endorse the SAVE initiative. From a venue management perspective, we have seen huge benefits in running our business in a more sustainable way. Taking a balanced approach to environmental, social and economic planning is helping to secure our future and I have no doubt that SAVE will help many other businesses in our industry achieve the same.”
