Tech East Midlands (TechEM) has launched as an independent body supporting the East Midlands technology sector, bringing together founders, businesses, universities, incubators and grassroots communities to strengthen the region’s ecosystem.

Until now, the East Midlands has remained the only major economic region in the UK without a dedicated organisation representing its technology sector. TechEM has been established as a Community Interest Company (CIC) to address this gap, and is focused on giving the region a distinct voice and showcasing its industrial and technological depth.

The East Midlands has a strong industrial base across advanced manufacturing, aerospace, logistics and pharmaceuticals. TechEM will champion businesses across these industries and partner with grassroots tech communities – including Built in Notts, Leicester Startups and UK Tech Week – to connect businesses, founders and regional partners.

Martin Sandhu, CEO of TechEM, said:

“Every other major UK region has an independent body championing its tech sector. The East Midlands is home to ambitious founders, established industrial companies and a thriving tech scene, but we have lacked a unified voice. TechEM changes that. We are here to champion our grassroots networks, support scaling businesses and ensure the East Midlands is no longer overlooked on the national stage.”

TechEM’s research programme includes the upcoming East Midlands Tech Review and AI Skills Gap Report, providing independent insights into the regional tech economy.

The organisation is inviting businesses, educational institutions, public sector bodies and community leaders who want to help shape the East Midlands tech sector to become founding partners.
