Truck Festival

Truck Festival achieves Gold Attitude is Everything award

Truck Festival has achieved Gold status in Attitude Is Everything’s Live Events Access Charter, which provides a clear framework for events to make their shows accessible and welcoming for all abilities.

The Gold Award specifically recognises shows, events and venues which do fantastic work to champion inclusive practice to ensure that D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent fans, artists and workers are able to fully enjoy an event.

Truck Festival’s commitment to a wider inclusive festival experience has sat at the core of its ethos since the very beginning. In 2023, the festival produced its most comprehensive accessibility programme utilising a range of different proactive measures and initiatives designed to make the Truck Festival experience one that can be enjoyed to the fullest no matter the ability of the festival-goer. This included:

  • The festival’s most comprehensive dedicated access campsite to date, with operational teams and facilities on-hand to ensure the most comfortable experience possible both pre-event and during the festival weekend
  • Viewing platforms/areas located at each stage
  • Hearing loops fitted across the festival site
  • Plans in place to accommodate crew or artist access requirements that might be a barrier to them working in the live industry
  • A dedicated respite space provided by partners Diverse UK
  • Changing Places facility complete with extra equipment and assistance for those requiring its use
  • Charging points for electric scooters and wheelchairs within the Access Campsite.

Alex Lane, festival manager of Truck Festival, said of the win: “It means a lot to receive this award from Attitude Is Everything. Ensuring that festivalgoers from all walks of life can enjoy Truck is hugely important for everyone who works on the show and something we always look to improve year on year, so to be recognised for these efforts alongside the biggest festivals in the country is something we’re incredibly proud of. This award was only possible with the hard-work of everyone within the Truck organisational and access teams who work tirelessly to improve on and assist our customers’ experiences  – so our thanks goes out to them. We look forward to using this award as motivation to continue to improve in the years to come, and further reduce barriers within the live music sector”.

Henna Patel, communications manager at Attitude is Everything, said: “Attitude is Everything is proud to have been working with Truck Festival since 2017, where we have supported their progress through our Live Events Access Charter to achieve the Gold award this year. The whole team at Truck Festival have been fully invested to improve accessibility year-on-year to champion inclusive practice. As a small festival, we appreciate that this requires more commitment and consideration to achieve and Truck Festival has been consistently collaborating with their community to provide excellent accessibility on-site from Changing Places facilities, dedicated access buggy, a sensory area run by neurodivergent-led Diverse UK, and BSL available on request.

“In addition to the on-site work, Truck Festival is thoughtful and creative with digital accessibility and communication with disabled artists. We look forward to continuing to work with Truck Festival in future years as they continue to provide excellent, inclusive entertainment.”

Truck Festival returns in 2024 from July 26-28.
